#1 Camping like a professional
During MetalDays you’ll become a real camper, if you weren’t one already! Below we have a number of items that are indispensable at the campsite in Tolmin.
1. A camping chair
A little comfort is nice at a festival like MetalDays. So take a camping chair with you and make sure you can sit together with your camping neighbours and have a beer!
2. Sleep soundly
A sleeping mat is highly recommended on a festival camping. You don’t have to inflate it like an air mattress and it’s quite comfortable! Being able to sleep is essential if you want to enjoy MetalDays to the fullest.
3. Picnic rug
Taking a break and relax at your tent is nice from time to time. With a picnic rug you can sit outside, because you don’t want to do that on your clean towels! At a campsite you mainly live outside so a picnic rug can be quite comfortable. Especially combined with your camping chair!
4. Last but not least
Don’t forget to put a number padlock for your tent on your MetalDays checklist. Thieves are everywhere and at MetalDays you never know. Really valuable things like your passport can be stored in a locker at the festival area.
Complete the whole MetalDays experience: stay at the camping!
#2 Always good to have at MetalDays
For some items you only realise how important they are when you don’t have them with you. To prevent you from forgetting them, we’ve put them on the MetalDays checklist!
1. The fannypack
Sunscreen, cigarettes and your wallet: you have to keep it all with you. And a backpack is very warm to have on your back when it’s 30 degrees! So choose a fannypack. This handy bag is worn against your body so you always have an eye on your stuff. In addition, they are available in all shapes and sizes, so there is always one that suits you! So you can go loose carefree at MetalDays with this practical bag.
2. A good night’s sleep
A sleeping mask and earplugs may not be the first things you think of when you go to MetalDays. But with these items you’re going to be happy when you can sleep through the night when people are having sex in the tent next to you or when the sun rises at 7 in the morning. Maybe not the toughest items, but very handy!
3. Cigarettes
We know that smoking is not super healthy, but that doesn’t mean we like to go to a festival without cigarettes. Take some stock with you to MetalDays, because you don’t want to waste valuable time queuing up to buy them at the festival itself. In addition, your brand may not be available at MetalDays. TIP: Buy your cigarettes across the border, they are cheaper in Slovenia.
4. Eating and Drinking
Eating and drinking well is essential for a great festival experience. You keep your energy up and you stay in a good mood! It’s tempting to drink a lot of beers at MetalDays because it’s so cheap! But also make sure you stay hydrated with other liquids like water. A good breakfast is the best remedy against a hangover and you start the day full of energy, so also make sure you eat something tasty (and healthy).
5. MetalDays outfit
You’re going to Tolmin to enjoy the music and the sun, so you absolutely mustn’t think of too many clothes. But remember that it can cool down quite a bit in the evening, especially by the water. Especially if you don’t get much sleep or if you’re burned by the sun you can get cold extra quickly. With a good sweater you can keep yourself warm.
6. Money
Anything can happen at MetalDays: you could lose your bank card and you won’t find it again with thousands of metalheads around you. Cash is always handy, but don’t leave your debit card at home either because nowadays a lot of festivals are cashless. Check this in advance on the MetalDays website.
#3 Essential on the MetalDays checklist
Legitimation and tickets. The two most important things when you go to a festival abroad!
1. Bus ticket
Maximal Trips arranges your bus trip to MetalDays. Make sure you bring your ticket and don’t miss the bus!
2. Festival ticket(s)
No tickets, no festival. Your MetalDays tickets have probably been in your email for months, but also print them just to be on the safe side. It could just happen that your phone is ran out of battery or the internet is not cooperating in Slovenia. Printed tickets will at least get you in.
3. Passport / ID
Bring your passport! You are travelling across the border so make sure you have a valid ID. TIP: keep your passport in a case to keep it dry. There are many more tips for MetalDays.
#4 SpaDays at MetalDays
Taking care of yourself can’t hurt at a festival like MetalDays.
1. Baby wipes for adults
Baby wipes don’t sound cool, but they are super handy! You can quickly refresh yourself or clean your hands. These wipes are not only suitable for babies but also for adult festival-goers.
2. Single-use washcloths
Another thing you don’t think about until you go to MetalDays for the second time. You can clean yourself up in the shower and then just throw them away again. No wet cloths in your tent or in your bag. Handy!
3. Disinfectant gel
We don’t like to think about it but festivals are a source of dirty bacteria. You never know how the sanitary facilities at a festival are arranged and on the way to Slovenia it is nice to be able to freshen up your hands once in a while. So disinfecting gel is always a good idea!
4. Condoms
Bring back beautiful memories from Slovenia, no annoying STDs. So pack condoms! And you don’t want to have to buy baby wipes for a real baby 9 months after MetalDays… So put this on your MetalDays checklist!
#5 Technical gadgets
MetalDays is a metal paradise! But you can enjoy it even more when you put the following stuff on your MetalDays checklist.
1. Powerbank
Your phone can sometimes use some extra energy. When you’ve lost your friends it’s handy to always have some battery so you can send them a message. MetalDays may not allow half a million visitors, but it will still be hard to find your friends among thousands of metalheads! TIP: choose a power bank that you can charge in the sun. This way you’re not dependent on charging points!
2. Your own party
With the best bands from the scene, there’s certainly no shortage of good music at MetalDays. But at the campsite it can still be quiet. So bring your own speaker so you can enjoy your favorite songs at the camping. Invite your neighbors and make it a nice party!
3. The classic disposable camera
This old-fashioned invention is ideal for a festival. After MetalDays you don’t want to scroll through hundreds of photos on your mobile, of which you will probably have to delete half because a lot of photos failed. With a disposable camera you choose 24 moments that you absolutely want to capture, you only have one chance at a time. Have your photos processed and relive your Tolmin holiday 5 days later!
The party already starts on your way to the festival!
#6. MetalDays fashion
Be prepared for everything when you go to MetalDays: rain, sun, heat and cold.
1. Poncho
Of course we hope it will be sunny in Tolmin, but you never know for sure in Slovenia. With a poncho you can at least keep yourself dry when it starts raining. A poncho takes up little space and is lightweight, so easy to carry.
2. Sun protection
A cap may not be ideal if you’re planning on headbanging, but it will protect you from the sun! If you are going to lie down on the beach with your hangover, a cap will come in handy. Also think about sunscreen! You don’t want to take part in a mosh pit with burned skin…
3. Good shoes
Grass, gravel and sand. You don’t want to go to MetalDays on your new shoes because you will get blisters. With good shoes your feet will survive this festival! TIP: flip-flops are of course indispensable, if only for camping, the showers or if you go to the beach.
4. Swimwear
MetalDays is located at a beautiful location where you can swim and relax in the river on inflatable animals. So be sure to take these with you so you can float while you are recovering from your hangover.
Cooling down in the cool waters!
