Balaton Sound is the perfect mini-holiday in Hungary! To get the most out of this festival you want to be well prepared. We are happy to help you with this and have therefore compiled this Balaton Sound checklist for you. This way you can be sure that you take everything with you!

On Balaton Sound you become a real camper. Therefore make sure you are well prepared, because a festival campsite is not the same as the one you visit with your parents!

1. Sleep on a mat

A sleeping mat is more comfortable than it might seem. A mat is light and can’t leak like an air mattress that you also have to inflate. That saves some valuable space because you don’t have to carry a pump with you to Hungary! Of course it is not the same as your bed at home, but everything is better than sleeping on the ground because your air mattress is deflated.

2. A luxurious seat

A good camping chair is indispensable at the Balaton Sound campsite. You walk and dance day and night, so your body could use some comfort. Sitting on the ground is not the best for your back! Put this chair on your Balaton Sound checklist or buy one in Hungary.

3. Picnic rug

Apart from the fact that you will mainly be dancing at the festival area or float in Lake Balaton, it is also nice to relax at your tent. Of course you don’t want to do this on the clean towels you brought with you and you don’t want to sit in your tent when it’s 30+ degrees outside. So bring a picnic rug and invite your nice neighbour for a drink.

4. Last but not least

Bring a combination lock for your tent. Thieves are everywhere and even at Balaton Sound you never know. Real valuable stuff can be stored in a locker at the festival area.

1. The fannypack

This bag is perfect for all festivals. It’s not as big (and warm) as a backpack and you can keep your stuff safe and close to your body. Nowadays these bags come in all shapes and sizes, so for both male and female festival-goers there’s a suitable fannypack! Buy one in a crazy colour and it will certainly go well with your colourful Balaton Sound outfit.

2. Sleep softly

Take care of yourself because you will need it. There will be nothing left of your healthy sleep rhythm during a week of Balaton Sound, but with good earplugs and an eyemask you can limit the damage. This way you won’t be bothered by couples having sex in the tent next to you and you won’t wake up at 8 in the morning from the light of the sun.

3. Cigarettes

Your parents probably don’t like it when you want to have a cigarette, so don’t take them from home! In Hungary, cigarettes are cheaper, so while your parents think you’re doing well, you just think about your money. Make sure you bring some stock to the festival because your brand might not be available!

4. A delicious snack

Food and drinks are your best friends during Balaton Sound. Make sure you stay well hydrated and eat regularly. Fortunately food and drinks are not expensive at Balaton Sound. Some stock of (healthy) snacks and water is always handy to have in your tent, especially when you’re hungover.

5. Stay warm

Balaton Sound is your perfect festival holiday and it’s the middle of summer so you don’t want to think about a lot of clothes, but don’t forget that it cools down in Hungary in the evening. Due to little sleep you can quickly get cold, especially if you have the whole day in the sun dancing. With a nice sweater you make sure you don’t get cold.

6. Money

It’s always good to have some cash. If you lose your bank card, at least you still have some cash!  However, always take your card with you, because nowadays many festivals are cashless, check this in advance on the Balaton Sound website. TIP: keep your money and your debit card not in the same place, if something happens you will not lose everything at once.

1. Bus ticket

2. Disposable washcloths

One of those handy things you don’t think about until you go to Balaton Sound for the second time. Your helping hand while showering and you can just throw them away afterwards.

3. Disinfectant gel

You never know what the sanitary facilities look like at a festival, so always bring disinfectant gel. Did they run out of soap at the toilets? No problem for you! Also on the way to Hungary it is nice to be able to freshen up your hands once in a while.

4. Condoms

It’s always good to have condoms with you at a festival and especially in your tent! You don’t dare to ask if your new Balaton love has had unsafe sex. Bring back beautiful memories from Hungary, no annoying STDs.

1. Powerbank

Not just your own energy, but also the energy of your phone will run out during a festival. Balaton Sound is super big, so if your phone has died the search for your friends can take hours. TIP: Get a power bank that you can charge in the sun (even when it’s cloudy). Bye-bye charging stations #independent.

2. Your own music

With today’s best artists, Balaton Sound will certainly play the best music. But chilling out at your tent with your favourite playlist is so much fun. Whether you want to listen to guilty pleasure hits or become the camping DJ: everything possible. Host your own pre-party with your camping neighbours and bring a music speaker!

3. The classic disposable camera

In the old days, you couldn’t take 15 group photos, just one. With the disposable camera, you select 24 moments during Balaton Sound that you absolutely want to capture. You only have one chance at a time. Process your pictures at the local photo store at home and have the ultimate re-experience. This device is also lightweight and can easily be taken to Hungary!

Balaton Sound Festival is like a large playground where you can relive your childhood (this time with alcohol). Make sure you have your toys with you.

1. Zoo

Inflatable animals always draw attention during a stay at the lake. With inflatable animals you have something fun to float on in Lake Balaton while you drink your cheap cocktail!

2. Glitter and glamour

Don’t take your outfit for Balaton Sound too seriously. It’s so hot and as little clothing as possible is very comfortable in the heat of the Hungarian sun. Don’t forget glitter and other random festival accessories.

3. Make me wet!

Make sure you have something like a water pistol. The perfect way to cool your friends down and a great way to smuggle liquor.

There are no dress codes at Balaton Sound: everything is possible and everything is allowed! Put on your craziest outfit but also think about functionality! You will be grateful to yourself if you trade in your fancy shoes for some comfortable sneakers.

1. Poncho

We assume that the weather will be nice in Hungary, but just to be on the safe side, take a poncho with you. An invention that helped many a dancing festival-goer to prevent wet clothes! If it starts raining or your tent breaks down, at least you still have the possibility to keep yourself dry.

2. Caps and hats

A cap or hat helps against many complications you may encounter at a festival. It protects you from the sun, rain or bad-hair days. Add a pair of sunglasses and no one will recognize you! This can be useful if you are hungover in the morning. Choose one that matches your Balaton Sound outfit.

3. Happy feet

The festival area of Balaton Sound is super big and you are going to dance a lot. Of course you don’t want to be stopped by sore feet, so choose good shoes when you go to the festival area. TIP: flip-flops are of course indispensable, if only for the campsite and the showers.
