The Sziget checklist: these items are essential!
What: Sziget checklist / Where: Budapest, Hungary / When: 6 – 11 August 2025 / Genre: Everything!
Sziget is the perfect summer holiday for music lovers! We all would like to spend a week under the Hungarian sun at the Island of Freedom. To make this holiday unforgettable, it’s good to bring all the necessary stuff so you won’t have any unpleasant surprises. We will help you with this Sziget checklist.
At the top of this blog you will find our specially highlighted items with tips. At the bottom all items are listed in a handy Sziget checklist. Book your bus trip to Sziget festival here.
1. Camping luxurious
The days during Sziget you are a real camper, so make sure you play this role with verve. With a few simple things (see Sziget packing list at the bottom of this blog) you’ll feel like you’re in a five-star resort.
1. A comfortable seat
The classic camping chair is indispensable at a festival camping. Dancing for days demands a lot from your body, so make sure you can sit comfortably. Your back is going to thank you! So be sure to put the camping chair on your Sziget checklist or buy one in Hungary.
2. Make sure you have a mat
Sleeping well is no luxury at Sziget. So bring a sleeping mat! It’s light and can’t leak like an air mattress which you also have to inflate. A mat saves some luggage that you don’t have to take with you to Hungary, because you don’t need a pump. It is not like your soft bed from home, but anything is better than sleeping on the ground or a deflated air mattress!
3. Picnic rug
You’ll probably find yourself at the festival area or in the lake most of the time, but sometimes it’s nice to relax at your tent. So bring a picnic rug and lie down in front of your tent! It’s too hot in your tent and you don’t want to sit on your clean towels.
4. Lock up
A combination lock is super handy. Thieves are everywhere and also at Sziget you never know. Real valuable items can be stored in a locker at the festival area.
Sziget is an experience you won’t forget!
#2. Essential on the Sziget checklist
Take these essential items to Hungary and make the most out of your Sziget experience!
1. The fannypack
A bag that you can carry on your body with all your important stuff in it: perfect. Because besides lipstick and tampons, chewing gum and sunscreen are handy to have with you. A fannypack is almost pickpocket-proof and fashionable for both men and women. Perfect! Choose a colourful bag that matches your Sziget outfit.
2. Sleep well
Sleeping well is underestimated at many festival campsites, but believe us you will be happy if you can start your festival day well rested every morning. Earplugs and an eye mask are indispensable for both the trip to the festival and at Sziget itself. You also have less trouble with those lovemaking neighbors in the tent next to you and you don’t wake up at 9 o’clock in the morning because of the sun.
3. Cigarettes
You probably have enough cigarettes for the trip to Hungary, but stock up for the festival! Your brand might not be available at Sziget. TIP: Buy your cigarettes across the border: they might be cheaper in Hungary.
4. Eat and drink
At Sziget you’ll be dancing under the Hungarian sun for hours. You lose a lot of moisture and energy, make sure you fill it up again! Food and drinks are relatively cheap at the festival area of Sziget itself, but some food for morning or night in your tent is also recommended! Think of a bottle of water or a banana for example.
5. Clothing
It’s summer holidays and you absolutely mustn’t think about a lot of clothes, but don’t forget that it can get cold at the lake in the evening. With a lack of sleep and having a sunburned skin can make you quickly feel cold. With a nice sweater you make sure you don’t get cold.
6. Cash
It’s always good to have some cash with you. If you lose your bank card, at least you still have some money! However, always take your card with you, because nowadays many festivals are cashless. Check this in advance on the website of Sziget. TIP: keep your money and your debit card not in the same place, if something happens you will not lose everything at once.
#3. Documents and paperwork
No ticket = no festival. The most important thing to bring! Don’t forget your ticket, identification and wallet. So be sure to put these documents on your Sziget checklist!
1. Bus ticket
Maximal Trips arranges your bus trip to Sziget. Make sure you bring your ticket and don’t miss the bus!
2. Festival ticket(s)
So important, but you won’t be the first to forget. TIP: Print all your tickets and save it in a folder. It could just happen that your phone runs out of battery or that you have no internet connection in Hungary. A good plan B is always a good idea!
3. Passport/ID
This, too, is such an essential document. TIP: Put your passport in a plastic case to protect it from getting wet. There are many more tips for Sziget.
#4. A bit of self care at Sziget
It could be the little tricks that make the difference between a good festival experience or a great fesitval experience at Sziget.
1. Baby wipes, also for big people
These wipes are simply super handy at Sziget. You can use them to freshen up quickly, clean your hands that are sticky from beer and clean your feet before you go to sleep. No dirty feet in your sleeping bag!
2. Single-use washcloths
Another item you don’t think of until you go to Sziget for the second time. It gives you a nice hand while showering and you can just throw them away afterwards. Always handy to wash off that waterproof sunscreen.
3. Disinfectant gel
At a festival you never know what the sanitary facilities look like, so always bring disinfectant gel. They could run out of soap or the water tap isn’t working, this is not going to be a problem for you! Also on the way to Hungary it is nice to be able to freshen up your hands once in a while.
4. Safety first
Who knows, you might fall in love this summer and you don’t want to ask your Sziget-lover if he or she has had unsafe sex sometimes. Bring nice memories from Hungary, no annoying STDs. Besides, you don’t want to be needing baby wipes for real 9 months after Sziget…
Sleeping in a tent makes the experience complete!
# 5. Recharge your batteries
With the newest gadgets you will have endless fun and they are super handy. You’ll be popular with your friends if you lead the way with these indispensable items from the Sziget checklist.
1. Powerbank
Charge your phone with a powerbank. Always stay online, because if you lose your friends at Sziget, it could take hours to find them! TIP: Bring a powerbank that you can recharge in the sun. Then you will never have to depend on charging stations again and you will always have your phone with you.
2. Your own sound system
With the best artists of the moment at Sziget you’ll really get what you’re looking for musically: you’ll be able to enjoy just about every genre. But chilling out at your tent with your favourite playlist is also much fun. Whether you secretly want to listen to guilty pleasure hits or become the Sziget camping DJ.
3. The classic disposable camera
Don’t want take hundreds of photos that you have to view and delete one by one? Use the disposable camera to select 24 moments during Sziget that you absolutely want to capture. You only have one chance at a time. 5 days after coming home you pick up your pictures after processing them and have the ultimate re-experience, super fun!
Let’s get this party started!
#6. Children's paradise for adults
Sziget Festival is a playground where you can relive your childhood (this time with alcohol). Make sure you have your toys with you.
1. Huggable animals
There is a swimming opportunity at Sziget, so make sure you enjoy it fully! With inflatable animals you have something to float on a cocktail in your hand. Having a Sziget hangover is no problem if you are floating on your inflatable crocodile!
2. Sziget style
Don’t take your outfit for Sziget too seriously. It’s very hot so wear something comfortable. Don’t forget glitter and other random festival accessories. There are no rules!
3. Make me wet!
Interpret it the way you want, we’re talking about water pistols! It’s the perfect way to cool you and your friends down when it’s hot. It’s also a great way to smuggle liquor.
#7. A Sziget-proof outfit
At Sziget there are no dress codes: everything is possible and everything is allowed! Put on your craziest outfit but also think about functionality! You’ll be thankful if you trade in your fancy shoes for some comfortable sneakers.
1. Poncho
We don’t want to rain on your parade, but prepare for bad weather. You’re going to Hungary to enjoy the sun, but it might rain! A poncho is an invention that has helped many a dancing festivalgoer prevent wet clothes. If it starts raining or your tent breaks down, at least you still have the possibility to keep yourself dry, because at the indoor stages it is going to be crowded.
2. Hat on your head
Put on a hat or a cap. It helps against a lot of complications you may encounter at Sziget. It protects you from the sun, rain or bad-hair days. Add a pair of sunglasses and no one will recognize you! This can be useful if you are hungover in the morning.
3. Good shoes
When you’re listening to the music of the best artists you don’t want to stand still at Sziget. You’ll walk from stage to stage and of course you’ll dance a lot. It’s better not to do this on stiletto heels but on sneakers, your feet will be happy with this decision. Bring an extra pair of shoes in case your shoes are wet. TIP: flip-flops are of course indispensable, if only for the campsite or when you’re going for a swim.
