At the top of this blog you’ll find our specially highlighted items with tips, at the bottom all items are listed in a handy MELT checklist. Book your bus trip to MELT here.
#1 Camp like a pro
MELT is not only partying, but also camping! With these tips you will become a camping expert and it will be just as much fun at the campsite as at the festival site itself.
1. A camping chair
After hours of dancing on the Rave Floor your legs and back could use some comfort. Therefore take a camping chair with you! Relax in front of your tent and recover from all the impressions at MELT. Have you forgotten your seat? No worries! At the MELT camping shop you can just buy one. TIP: do this as soon as you arrive, otherwise everything is sold out!
2. Sleep soundly
You probably don’t sleep much at a festival like MELT. You want to keep dancing as long as possible and in the morning you don’t want to stay in your tent all day because you could use a fresh dive in the lake. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep for the few hours you do sleep. You do this on a sleeping mat! It is much more comfortable than you would expect and you don’t have to inflate it like an air bed.
3. Picnic rug
Relax at your tent with a picnic rug. You don’t want to sit in your tent when it’s 30 degrees outside or get your clean towels dirty. Provide some delicious snacks and drinks, invite your nice neighbors and enjoy relaxing on your picnic rug at your tent or by the lake!
4. A good closure
Bring a combination lock for your tent. In general everyone is super nice at MELT, but you never know what could happen. With a lock on your tent your belongings are safe. Really valuable things like your passport are best kept in a locker at the festival area.
The ultimate MELT experience: the campsite!
#2 Always good to have at MELT
A practical bag, sleeping well, good food and MELT-proof clothing.
1. The fannypack
A bag that you see at every festival: the fannypack. And for a reason! These bags are not only fashionable, they are also super handy and almost pickpocket-proof. Keep an eye on your important belongings and keep them in this handy bag. The fannypack is carried against your body and is not as big as a backpack. So you can dance undisturbed!
2. Sleep peacefully
You won’t sleep much at MELT and you’ll come home exhausted after this festival. But it’s definitely worth it! To limit the damage, it is best to bring earplugs and a sleeping mask. Then you won’t wake up at night from a love making couple in the tent next to you and you can sleep a bit longer in the morning because you won’t wake up from the light of the sun.
3. Cigarettes
We know that smoking is not super healthy, but that doesn’t mean we like to go to a festival without cigarettes. Take some stock with you to MELT, because you don’t want to waste valuable time queuing up to buy them at the festival itself. In addition, your brand may not be available at MELT. TIP: Check the prices of cigarretes in advance, they might be cheaper around Ferropolis.
4. Extra energy
There are several ways to get some extra energy at a festival… Something to eat and drink is our preference because the food at MELT is super tasty! Dancing for days (and nights) is an attack on your body, so you can use some extra energy. Eat and drink regularly and you can dance all day! TIP: also make sure you always have something to eat and drink with your tent.
5. MELT-proof outfit
A short week to Germany for MELT is the ideal summer holiday and you certainly don’t want to think about the cold. So you bring swimwear, shorts and t-shirts. Understandable! But remember that it cools down in the evening and you get cold faster when you’re tired. A nice sweater will keep you warm! TIP: put your sweater in the locker when you go to the festival during the day. You don’t want to have to walk all the way to your tent in the evening to get a sweater.
6. Money
MELT is a cashless festival, you can load money on a wristband. For more information go to the website of MELT.
#3 Essential on the MELT checklist
The most important items for MELT are your documents. Think about your ID and tickets!
1. Bus ticket
Maximal Trips arranges your bus trip to MELT. Make sure you bring your ticket and don’t miss the bus!
2. Festival ticket(s)
No ticket = no festival. So it is essential to bring your festival ticket(s) with you! Often you will receive them in an e-mail but it is always convenient to print them. The internet in Ferropolis may not work or your battery may be dead. With printed tickets you always have a plan B!
3. Passport / ID
Also mega important: your identification! Within the EU you can cross the border with your ID, but check the validity in advance or take your passport with you to be sure. TIP: keep your legitimation in a locker at the festival area, so you can never lose it. There are many more tips for MELT.
Dance until the sun comes up!
#4 Some self-care at MELT
A festival camping doesn’t have the luxury of your own bathroom, but with these items on your MELT checklist you’ll still get close to it!
1. Baby wipes for big people
These wipes are an absolute must for festival-goers. They always come in handy. With baby wipes you have good quality toilet paper, you can clean your hands with them and you can always freshen up quickly. In short, super handy and indispensable!
2. Single-use washcloths
These washcloths clean you well in the shower and you can use them to clean your face at the sink. Your skin doesn’t like a lot of make-up, dust and sunburn and with a washcloth you can clean your skin well. After use you throw them away, so no wet cloths in your tent!
3. Disinfectant gel
Indispensable on the MELT checklist is disinfectant gel. You never know what the toilet facility at a festival looks like or they run out of soap. Moreover, bacteria are everywhere with warm temperatures. No problem for you because you are well prepared!
4. Condoms
Safety first. You’re gonna thank yourself for taking this with you! You don’t want to ask your MELT-lover right away if he or she has ever had unsafe sex. Bring nice memories from Ferropolis, no annoying STDs.
Together in a tent is more fun than alone 😉
#5 Technical items
Your favourite gadgets will give you endless fun. That’s why we’ve included them in this MELT checklist. Your friends are gonna be glad you brought this and so will you!
1. Powerbank
MELT is super big, so if you are offline the search for your friends can take hours if you lose them. So take a power bank with you, and you’ll stay online! TIP: Choose a powerbank that you can recharge in the sun. Then you and your friends are not dependent on charging points. Perfect!
2. Your own party
The music at MELT is great and it’s a shame you can’t keep hearing it at your tent. Bring a speaker so you can build your own party at the camping. Invite your fun neighbors and have a nice pre-party.
3. Old is new
Once upon a time, you didn’t take 15 group photos, but just one. Take a classic disposable camera and pick out 24 moments during MELT that you absolutely want to capture. You only have one chance at a time. Have your pictures processed and have the ultimate re-experience. This device is also lightweight and therefore super easy to take with you!
#6 A MELT-worthy outfit
The weather is not always predictable in Germany, so you have to be prepared for everything! Of course, good shoes are also essential on the MELT checklist.
1. Poncho
This invention is a must at every festival. Of course we hope it won’t rain, but in Germany you never know! Therefore, just to be on the safe side, bring a poncho and you will always be dry when it rains. It fits easily in your bag so no reason not to take it with you!
2. Hats and caps
Make sure you have something you can put on your head: a cap, buckethat or flatcap, whatever you want. It helps against many complications you may encounter at MELT. It protects you from the sun, rain or bad-hair days and is fashion too. Add a pair of sunglasses and no one will recognize you when you walk around the camping with a hangover.
3. Good shoes
You’re not going to MELT to stand still! There’s got to be dancing! Put on the right shoes so you can keep dancing the next days. Especially if you like to dance for hours, your feet should be able to handle that! Bring an extra pair of shoes to alternate. TIP: flip-flops are of course indispensable, if only for the camping or the lake.
